This topic is to address a few issues related to email and messages that came up at the site launch party today.
The "Contact" tab for residences let users send email to the administrators of that residence. Someone suggested it would be better if the message went to "My messages" instead of email. That will be possible in the future; it relies on a feature that's under active development (see http://drupal.org/node/555016). In the meantime, should we leave it the way it is, or get rid of the Contact tab?
Forwarding from "My messages": You can't do it now, but it will be possible in the future. See http://drupal.org/node/548188. Any thoughts on how high a priority this is?
Autocomplete of usernames when sending messages should already work, but clearly it doesn't. I'll put it on the list.
The reason why some people have a "Contact" tab and some people don't is that this is something you choose in your account configuration. Should everyone be contactable by email, instead? No one?
Re: My messages and Contact
forwarding = fun, but prob.s not a huge priority for the site--I think the forums, etc. are much more important.
If people don't want to be contacted by email, that's fine... however, maybe the "contacts" tab could include an option to message them through the site?
Re: My messages and Contact
Sachi, thanks for your thoughts! I'm going to look into whether I can replace the "Contacts" tab with one that uses private messages instead of email---it just seems like that would be more convenient for everyone.
Updates: Sending private messages
I made a few changes regarding messages and email that will hopefully make things easier and alleviate any confusion.
Each member profile now has a tab to "send message" to that member. So you can just go to the list of members, find the person you want to send a message to, click on their picture, and then click on "Send message."
I removed the option to contact through individual members through email, because there were getting to be too many tabs, and you can send a message instead. Is it important to have the option to contact through email off-site?
There is autocomplete in the form to send a new message. That is, you can start typing a member's name, and the computer will offer you suggestions for how to complete it.
I hope this is helpful. If you have further thoughts, share them here!
