How Facebook-style statuses could be relevant to GreenRes.Net
Here are some thoughts on how Facebook-style status messages could be useful for GreenRes.Net site members.
In last fall's Participatory Design activities with Grinnell EcoHouse, I gave them a "Sustainability Diary." This asked EcoHousers to write what they were proud of on a "green day", and what they wished they could have done differently on a "not-so-green day." For example, someone was proud of working in the garden on a soggy day, and someone else wrote about buying cheap commercial ice cream but wishing they could have bought organic or local.
The site currently gives you a way to share news about your residence, but there is no way other than a forum post to share your own personal triumphs and confessions. Facebook-style status messages would be another way to do that.
One other thought: The Sustainability Diary let people write anonymously. Do you think anonymity is important here, or is it better for people to own their status?
