The Grinnell EcoHouse is the campus' sustainable living residence. Residents aim to serve as a hub for environmentalism on campus and the greater Grinnell community by hosting events to raise awarness on environmental sustainability, testing energy efficient technologies for Facilities Management (FM), and conducting community outreach.
The goals of Grinnell EcoHoue include:
Minimizing our environmental impact through efficient technology, responsible purchasing, and lifestyle choices.
Facilitating community outreach and education about sustainable living practices.
Serving as a test site for energy efficient technologies and practices.
Setting an example for the rest of the Grinnell Community about how sustainable living habits and technologies are successful and easy to implement.
Thus far, EcoHouse has successfully: installed low-flow faucets and showerheads, created and maintained of EcoHouse garden, started compost pile and continued composting efforts, improved insulation in attic, insulated hot water pipes in basement, installed radiator reflectors to improve efficiency, served as a meeting space for campus events such as Vegan Coop meals and other Eco events
